Durban City FC has used its historic cup win to deliver a new sports facility for its community. The club and sponsor Nedbank officially handed over a new multipurpose sports court at Ocean View Primary School in Chatsworth, turning on-field success into a tangible social legacy.
Club sponsorship manager Tutu Ntuli said the gesture was a direct result of their trophy triumph. He stated that the win belonged to the community and the club wanted to give something back.
The court will serve the school's learners. It is designed for multiple sports, providing a safe and accessible environment. The handover event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and exhibition matches, with various sports bodies in attendance.
Nthabiseng Matshekga, Executive Head of Integrated Marketing and Experience at Nedbank, highlighted the long-term vision. She said the club's historic trophy win should have lasting meaning. The facility is part of a community initiative linked to the Nedbank Cup, with significant investment made in such courts nationwide.
This community project arrives as Durban City FC handles a mixed start to the domestic league season. The team's recent form includes wins, draws, and a defeat. Their next challenge is a home game against Amazulu.
At the handover, Durban City FC presented the school with a signed commemorative shirt. Principal Mrs Ragini Moodley accepted the facility, which club CEO Younus Kadodia said was intended to teach life skills through sport. The initiative is funded by the Nedbank Sport Affinity programme, which has raised funds for sport development in South Africa for many years.
