Durban City FC battled bravely to secure a 2-2 draw from Tuesday evening's Betway Premiership clash with Siwelele FC at a cold and wet Petrus Molemela Stadium. In an entertaining evening's football in Bloemfontein, the Durban side scored first, only to concede twice before fighting back and showing good stamina and determination with a late equaliser. Pitso Dladla's men were off to the perfect start when Jean Lwamba continued where he left off in the Nedbank Cup last weekend by finding the back the net, tapping home from close range after pin-point cross by the productive Luphumlo Sifumba in the 8th minute. The lead was however only to last for five minutes as the hosts replied through Bohlale Ngwato, who picked out the top corner of the net with a scorching long-range drive from a tight angle out on the left. Both sides had further chances before half time – Sphesihle Jeza directed a header over the bar for Siwelele, while for the Citizens, Sifumba did well to shimmy inside off the left wing before testing goalkeeper Ricardo Goss with a curling, dipping effort from 20-yards. Twelve minutes into the second half and City found themselves behind for the first time when Ghampani Lungu steered a header inside the far post following an accurate cross from the right wing by Jeza. The Citizens were down but not out, and slowly began to claw their way back into the game. And the equaliser duly came, in the 76th minute, Lwamba showing his strength to head home from close range after a goalmouth scramble, following deflected shots from Samkelo Maseko as well as Sifumba. At 2-2 the game had developed into a real thriller and there was more action to follow soon after as Siwelele substitute Tebogo Potsane rifled a shot against the base of the upright with seven minutes of regulation time to play, while there were also two saves to make for City stopper Frederick Asare. At the other end, Maseko broke clean through on goal, showing great pace, but he was just unable to make it count as his low parting shot flew into the side-netting, his 88th minute opportunity proving to be last real chance of the night.
